Anubias var. 'Coin leaf'
Anubias barteri var. 'Coin Leaf' is a unique cultivar of Anubias barteri, named for its nearly round, coin-shaped leaves that distinguish it from other members of the Anubias genus. The leaves are typically broad, rounded, and deep green, with a leathery texture that resists damage from herbivorous fish and algae overgrowth. This variety retains the hardy and slow-growing nature typical of Anubias species, making it ideal for low-maintenance aquariums. It grows best when attached to hardscape elements such as driftwood, lava rock, or slate, as its rhizome must remain exposed and not buried in substrate to prevent rot. Its compact size and ornamental leaf shape make it well-suited for the midground or larger foreground areas in both nano and large aquascapes. Coin Leaf performs well in low to medium light conditions, and although CO₂ injection is not required, it can enhance growth rate and leaf coloration slightly. It tolerates a broad range of water parameters, with ideal conditions being 22–28°C (72–82°F) and a pH of 6.0–7.5. The plant has a very slow growth rate, often producing a new leaf only every few weeks under moderate light.
